children

Our Children’s Ministries exists to make the love of God known to children and their families, and to see children become lifelong disciples of Christ. Our ministry includes the following: •Biblical- Everything we do will be done with the desire to help our children grow in their knowledge of God’s Word so that they might grow in their knowledge of God. We are committed to teaching children the value of God’s word in their lives.

  • Family Oriented- We believe that God has designed the family to be the best place for a child to come to know Christ. We are committed to being a partner who equips families to disciple their children, and to make sure that those children who do not have families involved in a relationship with Christ are surrounded by loving adults who will model what it means to be a growing Christian.
  • Engaging- No matter what age or what background a child comes from, we strive to engage children where they are through creative, exciting, and fun programming so that children might understand the excitement of a life devoted to Christ.

Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”–Matthew 25:37-40 NRSV

None of us are immune from life’s hard times. Many of us know first hand how it feels to struggle daily to make ends meet. We have felt the grace that comes from an outstretched hand and the joy of returning the favor when God blesses us with abundance. Providing assistance to those in need within our community is one of Calvary Temple’s outreach/missions ministry most tangible ministries. Our food pantry seeks to meet some of the immediate needs of our neighbors.

The pantry is open Tuesday from 5PM to 7PM

men
Director: Wesley Ferguson

The primary focus of this ministry is to encourage men in their Christian walks to live the victorious life that God has called them to. The Scriptures tell us that we are to sharpen one another like iron sharpening iron. The men of Calvary Temple meet the last Wednesday night of each month for a time of fellowship, sharing and teaching from God’s word.

The men also get together for breakfast the 2nd Sunday of each month at 8:30am. We are always treated with a great meal as well as a time of sharing God’s word.

Very often, the most enduring impression a visitor gets of our congregation is established by the welcome he or she receives upon first arriving for worship. Ushers are ministers of hospitality and assistance and provide a wonderful service to each member of the church and to visitors.

Duties of the Greeter

1. Embracing newcomers – When you notice unknown guests, introduce yourself first, extend a welcome, and then ask for the visitors’ names.

2. Take an interest in people – We depend on our greeters to make Calvary Temple more personal, and to be the first to exhibit the love of Jesus Christ. A warm, loving and sincere greeting is the first stage in setting the atmosphere for worship, and a critical stage in exhibiting the family-like feeling that is so important to Christian fellowship.

3. Listen for deeper needs – People come to church both with every day needs (acceptance, day care, employment, friendships) and burdened with hurts, disappointments and personal crises. As you have opportunity, steer people to those in the church family to whom they can turn for help—the pastor, ministry leaders, housing counselors, church administrators etc.

4. Distribute materials – The role of a greeter has more to do with relationships than mechanical aspects like handing out flyers. At the same time, making sure people are informed is also important! Providing visitors with a welcome packet, weekly announcements and other materials that help them understand the culture at Calvary Temple helps people envision themselves as a part of our church and quickly shows them where they may be helped or be of some help.

The purpose of our Women’s Ministry is to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of women at Calvary Temple and within our community. This ministry is designed to encourage women to grow in their faith in Christ, to develop and strengthen intimate friendships with other women, and to provide opportunities to serve and reach our community for Christ.

worship

Christine Ferguson

We have this mind set today that worship begins and ends. You see it on church billboards, web sites, read it in advertisements, ” Join us at 11am for worship”. The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery says, “Worship is first and foremost a verb, an action” (p.970). This is revealing because so many equate worship with either a place (usually a building) or a feeling. That worship is an action becomes clearer when we examine the roots of the Hebrew and Greek words for “worship.” According to the New Bible Dictionary, both the “Hebrew aboda, and the Greek latreia originally signified the labor of slaves or hired servants” (p. 1262). Therefore, the underlying concept of worship in Scripture is that of service to the One revered. This understanding greatly expands the application of worship far beyond the walls of a building. It includes any activity done in service to and because of the one worshipped.

In the New Testament Jesus showed us in John 4:21 that worship in a place like the Temple is unnecessary. Paul reveals that we are the Temple, and the worship of God expands to any time, any place, under any circumstance. This does not mean that fellowshipping as a congregation in a formal setting is no longer necessary, but it enlarges the idea and practice of worship beyond and besides the formal setting. In other words, worship expands right into the home, the work place, the bedroom, the kitchen, the highway and the ball field. In fact, worship includes all the activities one does as well as the formal religious setting.
